Isty Bitsy Plans - Project 5
Project Purpose
For the last several weeks you have been working to develop an interior design for a small loft space for a client.  You have chosen furniture, materials and finishes for the space and put them together on a color board to show how all your selections coordinate and meet your client’s needs as well as capture their wants and desires.  Now it is time to see how everything falls into place within the space. The purpose of this project is to develop your interior design solution for the 250 square foot apartment. You must develop a functional solution for a confined space while maintaining appropriate standards and clearances.
But, what are “appropriate standards and clearances?”  We will start out by familiarizing ourselves with common sizes of furnishings for the space we are designing.  Get out your tape measure!  Look at your own home, dorm room, or apartment and fill in the blanks in the worksheet below.  Come to the next class period with the blanks filled in
Requirements
Develop a partial set of working drawings to include a dimension plan, and a furniture plan.  Drawings will be done on 11” x 17” vellum, and will follow the same format as our other projects.
The dimension plan (page 1) must include interior and exterior dimensions, and room/space tags with approximate square footage listed.  All built-in cabinets and fixtures will be indicated on this drawing. The drawing must include a title with the scale indicated.
The furniture plan (page 2) must include the built-in cabinets and fixtures for the kitchen and bathroom as well, and show furniture with values and material representation (review project 2).  Neatly label all materials.  The drawing must include a title with the scale indicated.
Include a title page that is neatly constructed and well planned.  It should represent your overall design aesthetic for the project (including your color board) in a clean, professional manner.  The title page may be produced by hand, or on the computer.
Process
After we do our class exercise in life size space and furniture layouts, begin by producing a minimum of 2 different bubble diagrams illustrating how you are exploring your layout for the space.  Use color on your bubble diagrams and explore how traffic will flow through the space.
Once you have established your space arrangement, produce your dimension plan which will give room/space measurements for how you break down the area as well as the overall size of the apartment.  Label each space and include the square footage.  Only built-in furniture and fixtures will be shown on this drawing.
The last page will be a furniture plan which will include the furnishings as well as the built-in cabinets and fixtures.  Include shading and material representation (like we did on project 2) to create depth and interest.  No dimensions will be included on this drawing.
